Half our inventory has LOT numbers turned on as we sell both non-food and food items. We only use LOT numbers for our food stock. We have huge problems with our allocation because it is automatic and we can not follow strict FIFO and picking rules. EG, item A has 200 in stock, 100 of LOT A and 100 of LOT B. Theoretical Outcome We have 5 orders of item A, for 30 pc each. Order 1 - Automatic Allocated LOT A x 30pc Order 2 - Automatic Allocated LOT A x 30pc Order 3 - Automatic Allocated LOT A x 30pc Order 4 - Automatic Allocated LOT A x 10pc and LOT B 20pc Order 5 - Automatic Allocated LOT B x 30 pc So this is now in our system. However, Order 4 is picked by a more efficient picker and has not listened to his picking list and order 5 is by a priority customer and has been picked first. Order 4 has been picked LOT B x 30pc Order 5 has been picked LOT A x 30pc Orders 1,2, and 3 are either in queue to be picked or to be invoiced. So the Order Processing Team now goes to invoice Order 4, but can not chose LOT A as the system is showing out of stock (as the quantities has been allocated to orders 1, 2 and 3). There is no way for them to invoice the customer unless they manually do a stock transaction to enter dummy LOT A stock in and then wait for the LOT A to clear from Orders 1, 2 and 3 before removing from the system the corresponding quantity relating to the dummy stock put in. This is wildly inefficient, and open to so many errors. My thoughts are, can we turn off automatic allocation to the LOT numbered items and then the "invoicer" can just allocated the necessary batches as they go along. If so, what's the best way to accomplish this. Thanks for your help, I hope my above explanation was clear enough.
