Forum Post: RE: Account Format Change

Hi Scottie, If you want to change the Account Format, navigate to: Administration | Setup | Company | Account Format That window will show you your current settings as well as your maximum settings. The maximum settings represent your Account Framework (vs Format, which is company-level). To change your Format, all you need to do is change the numbers. Here's what the window looks like: In the window above, you would just type in a different Account Length, Segments and then change the length of each of the segments to what you want, so long as you do not exceed the maximums. Be aware that when you change the format, any extra characters you add to the length are just blank. They are not filled with zeros. Your system will still work, but it will look awful. I created a blog post about changing the account format, both expanding AND shrinking the segments. You can read it here: http://dynamicsconfessions.blogspot.com/2015/02/reshuffling-your-account-structure.html The thing you need to do to 'populate' those blank spaces with zeros is easily done using the Professional Services Tools Library that comes with GP. If you don't see it at your installation, it likely wasn't installed. You will need it to make the changes you are describing. If you should need to change your account Framework, you'll need the 'Re-Formatter' program from Corporate Renaissance Group http://www.crgroup.com/Products/SolutionsforMicrosoftDynamicsGP/Pages/Re-Formatter.aspx . Let me know if you have any other questions; I've spent a lot of time messing with the chart of accounts. Kind regards, Leslie
