While upgrading my test DB to GP2015 I had the same issue. There didn't seem to be any harm when I killed the process after waiting an hour. I also had nothing going on after running profiler. I have done hundreds of upgrades also this is my first experience with the great gray ghost of a wall. A little unnerving, considering.
