Blog Post: How is it going at Fastpath?

Now that I’ve been a Fastpath for a couple of months, a lot of people are asking about how it’s going. I thought I would tackle that in a post. Frankly, it’s been terrific. It’s a fantastic group of people and a great set of products. I’ve spent a bunch of time getting deeper into the products, helping with training, and doing some writing. There is one part that is still weird for me. Fastpath provides free support and training to customers. When I’m on a web connection with a user and I’m training on Assure or Audit Trail, the meter isn’t running. The constraint is their time and ability to retain the material, not the department’s training budget. This is significantly different from my time as a consultant. I’m not slamming consultants. It’s a tough job and I did it for a long time. I’ve been a controller too and that’s both a demanding and a distracting job. My point is that training now feels more relaxed. If we’re only able to cover a portion of the features because of time constraints, we’re happy to setup a later time to continue. If a company hired someone new, let’s get them trained and do a refresher for existing users at the same time. The constraint switches to just time rather than time and money. Audit related software purchases are often triggered by an event. That could be an IPO, an outcome from an external audit, or any number of other events.  Often companies need to get beyond the event before they decide how to get the most out of what they’ve bought. We see lots of people coming back later to learn how to get the most from Fastpath’s solutions. That makes free training a big deal. It’s still weird for me though. Some days I still hear the meter running in my head. Occasionally, I still wake up sweating, worried that I haven’t submitted my hours for the week. Clearly I’m still recovering from some fundamental damage cause by consulting for so long. If you’re a Fastpath user and you’d like additional training on one of our products, hit us up at  http://www.gofastpath.com/support and note that you want training in the description.
