Blog Post: Time Management App - Troubleshooting

$

With the release of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 R2 the Time Management is now available in the Microsoft, Android and Apple app stores for your PC and tablet form factor devices. This app allows salaried employees to enter time against pay codes (e.g. PTO and Sick) within a simple calendar interface and then submit their timecards for approval. As we’ve been testing this application internally here in support and working through errors encountered by customers and partners we’ve been keeping a list of issues and their potential solutions. I wanted to get this information published as a resource for you should you experience any of these errors. Each of the following errors was encountered while attempting to enter connection information into the Time Management (e.g. the User Name, Password and Service Connection) Error #1: Potential Solutions: The Service Based Architecture application that is a prerequisite for the Time Management app requires that the Identity Management feature has been configured in order to tie your domain account to a Dynamics GP user. Please refer to the following article for more information on configuring Identity Management: Identity Management for the Web Client https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/archive/2014/06/03/identity-management-for-the-web-client You can also receive the above error if you either don’t have access to the SBA endpoint or if your user has insufficient rights. To test this you can have the same domain account you’re entering in the Configuration window of the app try to access a URL in the following format, which will pull back XML data for the ACK0001 Employee ID in the Fabrikam, Inc. company: https://server.domain.com/GPService/Tenants(DefaultTenant )/Companies(Fabrikam,%20Inc.)/Dynamics/Payroll/Employees(ACKE0001). xml If you’re in a multi-tenant environment just replace DefaultTenant with the name you’ve given the tenant you want to query against Finally, the Service Connection URL that you enter into the Time Management app is case-sensitive. Be sure you’re using a URL in the following format: https://server.domain.com/GPService/Tenants(DefaultTenant )/Companies(Fabrikam,%20Inc.) Error #2 Potential Solutions: Since the idea behind the Time Management app is that employees enter timecards and submit them to a manager for approval you are required to have a Payroll Timecard Approval workflow both configured and marked as Active. This is accomplished in Microsoft Dynamics GP > Tools > Setup > Company > Workflow > Workflow Maintenance. On one occasion we’ve also seen that this error was given when one or more deactivated Payroll Timecard Approval workflow existed along with the one that is actively being used. In this instance the solution was to delete all Payroll Timecard Approval workflow definitions and recreate just the one you intend to mark as Active Error #3 Potential Solutions: The best advice I can give for addressing this error message is to have the user receiving the error log into Dynamics GP using the GP user account tied to their domain user and test their ability to enter/save/submit a payroll timecard. This may very well give the user a message that leads you to something missing in your configuration. You can review the following article for the steps to setup self-service timecards: Human Resource & Payroll Timecard Entry NEW to GP 2013 R2! https://community.dynamics.com/gp/b/dynamicsgp/archive/2014/06/12/human-resource-amp-payroll-timecard-entry-new-to-gp-2013-r2 There will of course be times when the above won’t address the problem. In those instances, there is logging you can enable at the SBA-level to get further information. Enabled this logging is different for multi-tenant and single tenant deployments: Web Management Console (for multi-tenant deployments) Select Tenant Manager snap-in Click Applications item Highlight GP Services and click Edit Click the plus (+) and type in the DevModeEnabled property, then click Save Select Tenant item, highlight your tenant and click Edit Highlight the GP Service application and set RequestLoggingEnabled and DevModeEnabled to true, then click Save TenantConfiguration.xml (for single-tenant deployments) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP Web Components\GPService on the SBA server Backup and then open TenantConfiguration.xml in Notepad Add the following before true true Save the file After making either change restart the GP Dexterity Service, GP Dexterity Service Control and GP Service services on the SBA server and reproduce the issue. This will write several logs to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Dynamics\GPSvc\Logs . I’ve found that files in the following provide the best information: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Dynamics\GPSvc\Logs\Inst_DEFAULT_14\DexterityRequests Start by reviewing logs that end with Error.log. Scroll to the bottom of the log and look for errors/stack traces before it rolls back for more information about your error. If you look at the top of log file, you will see that it has a header section that gives the Full URI that SBA is using to connect to GP. This can give you an idea of what type of information the Time Management is asking SBA to retrieve from Dynamics GP. Since so many log files are written when this option is enabled it is highly recommended to only enable logging long enough to troubleshoot the issue. Enjoy! Lucas

Has this changed? It would be nice to be able to reprint these. We had an issue with the destination printer and lost one of these.

Ok, I used PSTL and rebuilt the tables identified. That corrected the field lengths for the account number segments. I also rebuilt the tables for the purchasing series and tried to rebuild the table for the sales series but got the following error: Unhandled script exception: Illegal address for field 'RM_Options_ROPT' in script 'GPSTK_RecreateTable'. Script terminated. EXCEPTION_CLASS_SCRIPT_ADDRESSING SCRIPT_CMD_LOAD It looks like I will have to drop data from the rm00700 table, change the appropriate fields in the table for the account numbers to correct the segment lengths manually.

I am doing some testing to determine which method we should use for vacation tracking and when I set up an accrual schedule with a Range based on - Years worked and Maximum Hours Based on - Per Year - Variable as seen in the screen shot, I am getting inaccurate values on Hours Pending. I ran two test payrolls and get 240 hours in the Hours Pending field. How is this possible?

Hi Rosemary, These are not posted documents and yes, the ‘void’ option is available within the SOP transaction screen. The problem is, when I select “void”, it tells me 'You can’t void a document containing posted deposits'. Then, if I try to remove the deposit, it tells me I can’t do that for a closed period: "The fiscal period (s) for the transaction(s) you are attempting to insert or remove has been closed. To continue, reopen the fiscal period(s). I am unable to open the periods in question because they have been closed out and through a final review. Like I said these are from a few years ago, so it I am unable to open the period to remove the cash deposit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Deb

Microsoft updated the tool in May so it will now work with versions prior to GP2013 R2. Just make sure that you download the current version. The migration utility documentation does not spell a change to the OLE Notes path that is required.. In prior versions, OLE Notes would work from a shared network location. Now, in order to run the utility succesfully, you must copy your OLE Notes folder tree to the GP program files Data folder and adjust the OLEPath= line in dex.ini accordingly.

Blog Post: #reIMAGINE2015 – Pre Conference

So, now you know that I don’t have any photos of my own. But I do have some from friends at the conference, if you have any photos that include me or from the sessions that Mariano and I presented, please send them over. Sunday was the day before the conference and I started with a good sleep in. I was still getting adjusted to the 13 hour time zone shift from Perth and my sleep was very restless. After my late start, I felt a bit more alive and caught up with my friend Leslie Vail as she was going to provide a sample audience and feedback for the two sessions planned for reIMAGINE 2015. However, as typical, this did not go to plan and we ended up chatting most of the time. I also showed Leslie through the new features added to GP Power Tools that did not exist in the now discontinued Support Debugging Tool. While I had a late start, my buddy and usual co-presenter, Mariano Gomez, was instructing a Microsoft Dynamics GP installation and configuration class. This class was to help prepare for the new certification exams organised by the Association of Dynamics Professionals . Unfortunately, Mariano, felt unwell and was unable to complete the class. However, fellow MVPs Belinda Allen and John Lowther quickly took over and swapped to a workshop format. I took advantage of the opportunity and took the Installation and Configuration exam during this first sitting. While I have not actually installed Microsoft Dynamics GP for a live cutomer system for many years, I thought I would test my knowledge. As a developer I do install GP, but only what I need for my test systems. We shall see in due course whether I passed, I think I did well enough. I also provided feedback on the exam as this was both a test of my knowledge and a test of the exam and its ability to test my knowledge. After I had taken the exam, I spent some time socialising with other attendees who had come down to complete their registration and pick up their reIMAGINE 2015 bags with lots of goodies, including a nice Microsoft branded polo shirt. While it was not planned, it turned into an unofficial reception party as partners socialised and caught up with friends. The day finished with a dinner across the road from the Home2 Suites at Johnny Carino’s with Leslie Vail, Shelia Jefferson-Ross, Kim Peterson and Mariano Gomez (who was feeling better). Imagine fantastic photo here. The conference proper starts tomorrow…. David This article was originally posted on http://www.winthropdc.com/blog . Blog Post: Half of Failed ERP Implementations Are Because of This

$

The most common reason for ERP implementation failure isn’t the software itself.  According to a recent study by Software Advice, the most common reason for failure is poor change management, which is responsible for a whopping 50 percent of failures. Poor change management includes poor training and planning, specifically at the managerial level. Without manager buy-in and understanding, they are unable to explain the features, benefits and functionality of the new software to all of the employees. Appointing leaders throughout the organization and giving them the tools to lead their teams to ERP software implementation success is key to avoiding failure. The tools leaders need include: Ability to offer suggestions prior to implementation Laying out the plan for your ERP software and offering live demos with your end-users will prove vital to buy-in and success. During this sessions, allow users to express their thoughts about how the system will work or fail in a realistic scenario. By gathering feedback and input prior to committing to your final implementation plan, you’ll greatly increase your odds of having support from all managers and users. In-depth training Traditional training classes and sessions are a must for all users and managers. Beyond that, practice software systems should be set up ahead of the go-live date to allow all users to experience the system outside of the standard training sessions. Managers or software leaders should go through advanced training classes so they know the system inside and out, helping them answer questions and showcase the features to end users. Direct line to software support when needed During the implementation period, leaders need a direct line to software support to resolve any questions or issues as quickly as possible. This rapid response will help build trust in the system and the software partner. Talking points on the key benefits of the software During the software evaluation process, your team should go over all of the “what-if” and “what-about” scenarios and questions. These are likely the same objections that team leaders will hear from staff. Make sure leaders know all of the points that were discussed along with the reasoning behind every decision. Having that reasoning makes it much easier to answer questions logically. Avoid the main mistake that 50 percent of companies with failing ERP implementation have faced and take the extra time, and spend the extra money, to properly train your employees and ensure that the end-users are comfortable with the new system. by DFC Consultants Related Posts Failed Implementations Have the Highest Cost The Case of the Failed ERP Implementation – Solved! We have encountered this error in Fabrikam and a customer has also just encountered it in their live company database. Here's the error: Unhandled script exception: Index 0 or array '(R) Project Status' is out of range in script 'Project_Lookup_Scrolling_Window SCROLL_FILL' Script terminated. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the first row being blank when we do a lookup on Projects. Any ideas?

thank you for the suggestion. Based on what you said I modified the view and saved it as a stored procedure. When I set the variables in MS and execute the query from there it produces the desired results. However when I use the stored procedure from an SRSS report I get an error saying to enable remote errors for more info. When it is enabled I still get the same error. Interestingly enough it works when I remove the declare statement and cut/paste the query into the SRSS report. Thanks again for your assistance! Has anyone experienced having made new userid/passwords for a client on the server or one particular workstation and then those userid/passwords combination cannot login from any other workstation? The only way we have found to resolve this is to reset the password for the userid at the workstation they will use, then they can login, but again not from anywhere else. SA of course can login from everywhere.
